Rochester NY is located in Monroe County. Second only to New York City, it is the second largest economy in the state. It is the third larges city in New York and the center of Monroe County which also includes Livingston, Orleans, Genesee, Ontario and Wayne Counties. It is famously called The Worlds Image Center or the Flower City. Having 36 neighborhoods with each having their own characteristics and unique from each other, it is also known as the city of neighborhoods. There is the residential tree lined avenues of Maplewood if you love the serenity of nature. You will love the South Wedge Business district if you are more of the eclectic type. If gracious homes are what you are looking for, there is Browncroft.
It is the 6th Most Livable Cities among the 379 metropolitan areas according to the Places Rated Almanac. In 2007, it took the number 6 spot for best metropolitan public schools nationwide and the top spot for quality of life given by the Expansion Management Magazine. Rochester NY is considered to be one of the best places to live in because of its available to all wide range of resources. Whether for a single person or for a family, the city has everything one will need, from the most beautiful architecture, parks, business center and cultural centers.
When it comes to city employment, the city has around 3500 people in different jobs. The city boasts of having competitive pay, opportunities for advancement and comprehensive benefits for its employees. The city is also very supportive of its local large and small businesses. Its Economic Development Department provides assistance to businesses in the city as well as for those who want to relocate to the city.
Rochester NY also offers wide range of entertainment and recreational opportunities. There are always celebrations and concerts that are for free. It is also the home of the Garth Fagan Dance Troupe which performs around the city for various celebrations. There is also the Rochester City Ballet and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra for those who love the arts. Since the city takes a deep pride in its history, you will find the history of Rochester in its architecture and in its museums. Of course other works of art are also showcased, such as the dolls at the Chili Doll Hospital and Victorian Doll Museum and the unique collections at George Eastman House. And there are the usual indoor and outdoor sports for those who love sports. Of course you can always enjoy boating on Lake Ontario, the Erie Canal, the Finger Lakes and Genesee River.
